Rookies Division - This division is for players born in the years 2016, 2017 and 2018. This is an introductory, instructional division that consists of tee and coach pitch using a Softie ball. Players are taught the basics of softball and team sportsmanship. Events take place on weekend mornings and consist of a 40 minute clinic followed by a 40 minute game. All players are placed on a team and receive a uniform jersey and socks. Players are required to wear gray softball pants. At a minimum, all players should have a glove and cleats. We recommend having a fielding mask. The league can provide helmets and bats although most players have their own as needed. Rookies is offered in the Spring.
Minis Division - This division is for players born in the years 2014 and 2015. 2016s with at least 1 year of experience in either the Rookies division or baseball equivalent may participate in this division in the Spring season. This division teaches the fundamentals of the game and uses an 11” softball with a combination of coach pitch and player pitch with coach relief after ball 4. All players are placed on a team and receive a uniform jersey and socks. Players are required to wear gray softball pants. On average, teams have 2 games and 1 practice per week. At a minimum, all players should have a glove and cleats, and are required to wear a fielding mask in the infield. The league can provide helmets and bats as needed. All players are required to attend an evaluation session and will be selected to a team.
Minors Division - This division is for players born in 2012 and 2013. Exceptional players born in 2014 can play at this level in the Spring with approval from a league official or their previous year’s coach. This division uses an 11” softball with player pitch and builds on the fundamentals of the game. All players are placed on a team and receive a uniform jersey and socks. Players are required to wear gray softball pants. On average, teams have 2 games and 1 practice per week with games and practices on weekdays and weekends. At a minimum, all players should have a glove and cleats, and are required to wear a fielding mask in the infield. The league can provide helmets and bats as needed. This division is offered in Fall and Spring. For the Spring season, all players are required to attend an evaluation session and will be selected to a team.
Majors Division - This division is for players born in 2009, 2010 and 2011. This division uses a 12” softball and involves a higher level of softball play such as bunting, stealing, sliding, etc. All players are placed on a team and receive a uniform jersey and socks. Players are required to wear gray softball pants. On average, teams have 2 games and 1 practice per week with games and practices on weekdays and weekends. At a minimum, all players should have a glove and cleats, and are required to wear a fielding mask in the infield. The league can provide helmets and bats as needed. In the Spring season all players are required to attend an evaluation session and will be selected to a team. This division is offered in the Fall and Spring.
Middle School Division - This division is for players currently attending a Stamford Public Middle School. This division uses a 12” softball and involves a higher level of softball play such as bunting, stealing, sliding, etc. All players are placed on a team and receive a uniform jersey and socks. Players are required to wear gray softball pants. The Middle School division creates teams for members of the same school. They play a half-length season followed by a tournament to crown the Stamford Middle School Champion. Girls who qualify may play in both or either of the Majors division and the Middle School division.
On average, teams have 2 games per week on weekdays only. Practices are scheduled at the managers discretion. At a minimum, all players should have a glove and cleats, and are required to wear a fielding mask in the infield. The league can provide helmets and bats as needed. This division is offered in the Spring only.

Schedule
Game days and practice schedules will vary from week to week and coaches oftern add practice times one their own as the season progresses. Stamford Stars firmly believe that no player specialize in a single sport at this age, and so the schedule is deisnged to allow participation in other activities without needing to miss many softball events. Schedules are typically released only after registration closes so that the full team can is known.
